I’ve not been posting for a few days mostly because I’ve been sticking to the daily exercises and I’ve not really had much time for anything else. Thankfully tonight I was able to expand a bit beyond tonight’s bend exercise. Speaking of which, my third finger is starting to hurt in ways it didn’t used to, I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing so I’ll have to keep an eye on it. I certainly try to bend as accurately as possible but in order to prevent other strings from ringing on releasing the bend, I tend to just bend with the one finger without supporting fingers so that might be why.
Anyway, I went back to Parisienne Walkways as I still need to nail down the last bit with the random licks scattered after the solo on the second verse and at the end. I found I could play reasonably well over the Backing Track assuming I concentrate hard enough but I need to find my marks for that last part, so still some work to do but it’s getting there, certainly the fast bit isn’t quite as daunting as it was.
Finally, I played over 2 Backing Tracks, one in Dm and another in Bbm and it seems to me that more and more my fingers are starting to find their way to the root note more easily than they used to. Or perhaps it’s the licks that contain the b5 which allow me to locate the root note, despite having worked on pinpointing their relative location on the neck for months now. The result is something which to me sounds much more musical than the regular jumble of notes along the scale I usually do. so here’s hope I’ll eventually be able to sound like a musician as opposed to some wannabe guitar player who doesn’t seem to know what he’s trying to do.
