Chris Carter gives up a little of his busy schedule to answer questions from +The Independent 

This part is of particular interest to me

The series has been customised for the Obama era and will feature plenty of references to Edward Snowden, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange.

He's been hinting at this in other interviews in the past of course but now I'm curious how this will be approached. If you think about it, had Mulder got hold of enough evidence he would have become a whistleblower himself. In truth you can say his quest was to blow the whistle on the existence of the syndicate and the alien conspiracy. Think about that time in 2×01 Little Green Men when Mulder and Scully meet in secret in the Watergate building underground car park.

Are we gong to finally see Mulder play the role of a whistleblower? Given how the likes of Snowden and Manning are being treated by the authorities it would make for a pretty dramatic shift.
