So is Google killing off Hangouts then?

Because I don't see why they couldn't just have baked this Allo and Duo new apps right into Hangouts and frankly I can't see many people happily jumping on another messaging app from Google yet again.

And playing games with an AI is supposed to help us get things done? 😮

  1. This can't replace hangouts – duo is one to one video call. Allo is a messaging app (because we need another messaging app.) Still….

  2. hopefully, Allo will be what Hangouts should have been, which is one messaging platform for everything. That said, I'll not be holding my breath

  3. It looks like Allo and Duo will use the same account info, though. So they might be two separate apps, but should contain all the same relevant info, contacts, etc

  4. I agree. I think they should be pushing more integration into the hangouts app (or Google Messenger, which I think works better anyhow, but doesn't use Google Voice). Frankly, though, the way Google has been ignoring Google Voice is making me want to give it up and go back to my regular number. If Allo allows me to send text messages from my computer, I may just do that. (actually, I might anyhow… the Join app I use might work just as well for SMS)
