Quick review of +The X-Files (2016) #1

Despite Season 11 ending back in April, there's no stopping the flow of X-Files comics. Now the new series focuses on building stories around the situation established in the season 10 mini-series. The design of Mulder and Scully (and Skinner) reflect that.

It's not entirely clear where this first story would fit if it were considered canon to the TV show, but I supposed given this issue only spans 24 hours at best it could probably fit just about wherever you like.

I'll be interested to see if they follow the same conspiracy line as the mini-series or if they build their own mythology as comics have done over the years. In essence it's something I quite like about comics in general is that they're more or less set out in the same world we're familiar with but the conspiracies tend to be radically different (certainly season 11 was a rather different twist on some beloved supporting characters).

In this particular issue the story itself isn't terribly original given that it takes place during a mass-shooting (honestly, this should be original but given the frequency at which these things happen, they will make their way to fiction as much as they do on the front page news) and it seems to involve some kind of experiment. Beyond that, it very much reminded me of the season 2 episode Blood

Issue #2 is out too but I've not read it yet so watch this space
