Earlier today we went out to see Suicide Squad as +Stephanie Rebours-Smith was really keen to see it. I've been a little skeptical of it since it was first announced but I went along anyway and these are a few thoughts following from this.

Because there are so many characters being introduced in the movie, the first 20 minutes are dedicated to introduce you to the major characters forming Task Force X starting with Deadshot, then Harley Quinn both with rather long introductions about who they are and how they got caught (both by Batman), then Captain Boomerang with a shorter intro but a cool little Flash cameo and the rest are rather brushed over. Diablo has his back story told later in the movie (for the most part, more on this later) and I don't think we get to know much about Killer Croc at all.
And then they introduce Enchantress. Just how an amateur (I assume amateur) archaeologist ends in in the middle of the jungle in some ancient ritual site and breaks a relic not even accidentally just so she can get possessed by some (as we're told) inter-dimensional entity who roamed the earth 6000 years ago I'm not too sure. But then she does and goes on to become the main villain of the movie by tricking Rick Flagg, stealing the doll hosting the soul of her brother, turning some stranger into him and preparing a "weapon" to conquer (or possibly destroy) the earth by turning ordinary people into not even zombies but stone-like alien-ish soldiers and having lighting flash across the sky while broken stuff circles around it. Later she highjacks Amanda Waller's brain and finds out the location of secret bases, satellites and aircraft carriers (these things are dead cheap on superhero worlds) and destroys most of them but that felt more like an afterthought than some grand plan of conquest.
Other characters that get introduced include the aforementioned Rick Flagg, Katana and out of nowhere dump this character called Slipknot who you just know will be used to prove that A.R.G.U.S. is serious about the chip bomb in their necks. I know this because Arrow did exactly the same thing when they did their version of suicide squad in season 2. Also it was dead obvious.
And then there was the Joker, introduced in Harley Quinn's back story. I'll be honest, I didn't like this Joker at all. I mean it's hard to live up to Heath Ledger's performance and I command Leto's different approach to the character but when you're used to Mark Hamil's Joker laugh, the slow Ah Ah that Leto does feels really forced. I did like how they portrayed HQ origin including the brief shot of the classic costume and having the two of them being sick lovebirds is interesting on some ways but given that they're both mad you're just wondering how much of it is actually love.
Harley quinn was possibly the best character amongst them all, even if her crazy one-liners sometimes felt out of place.
Also Deadshot felt a little bit flat as a character. It seems hard to believe that someone who loves a little girl so much can be such a ruthless killer. Usually people like this are not family men, it seems almost like an anathema to give a family to a marksman for hire.
Boomerang I think was meant to be comic relief but didn't quite live up to it. Killer Croc was only interesting in the few scenes his character showed some softness. Of them all, Diablo was probably the one with the best arc, even though it's very unclear to me how he got his powers in the first place and they're clearly somehow linked to the Enchantress and her brother.
Overall it was a good movie but I don't feel like it was suitable for anyone not familiar with at least Batman v Superman, several aspects would be quite confusing to the average viewer.
That mid-credits scene was fun but again very predictable. It's almost a carbon copy of Fury's appearance at the end of Iron Man, it feels like a missed opportunity not to do something a little more original.
Overall score 6/10 I think.

It sounds like a good thing to watch when I don't feel like thinking.
I just watched it, I agree with that synopsis, but it was still really really good. Despite not being much of a DC fan (I'm a Marvel girl), I wasn't ever very confused. I also love the way that Joker and Harley were portrayed, more of the two-super-insane-criminals-in-love than the standard abusive-Joker-and-Stockholm-Syndrome-Harley. And while Leto may not have been the BEST Joker, he did a really good job, especially considering that he had to follow and live up to Ledger's legendary performance.
I just watched it and it deserves an 8/10 definitely a film for the fans.
10/10 from me! loved it 🙂
9/10
I agree with a lot of what you said. I really disliked Joker. I understand that Joker was needed for the Harley Quinn backstory, but he was as forgettable as Slipknot.
