"Don't complain about the darkness, light a candle" – Ajahn Brahm
The rise of Donald Trump is only the latest in a long list of events that make people afraid of the future but the truth is we need not be overwhelmed by that fear.
Personally I am far more worried about the prospects of what Brexit will mean for us than about Trump, mostly because there is nothing I can do about Trump, only watch in horror as many Americans found him worthy of sitting in the oval office.
And in the absence of empowerment for more positive change I find myself reminded that no matter what happens we can't be concerned about what others do or do not do, only about what we do and do not do. By being the kindest, most compassionate person we can be we not only help ourselves but we can also become an inspiration to others to do the same.
Fear is powerful and leads us to make rash decisions that can have potentially worse consequences than what we were afraid of to start with. If we can confront this fear we may be able to realise the truth in it, that it is nothing but a mental construct that obstructs our path towards a better life, whatever this means to you in practice.

What's wrong with fear…without it our ancestors wouldn't have survived & we wouldn't be here being anxious….isn't it just part of our true nature?!
+brian warr fear is like water, in moderation it keeps you alive, too much of it and you drown.
However I think what you're thinking about is vigilance and a sense of self-preservation.
