A few thoughts on episode 4×09 Broken Promises
There were two main story arcs happening in parallel: Aida’s going rogue (or seemingly so) and Nadeer’s brother Vijay.
In some ways it was a bit of a bummer that Radcliffe’s betrayal didn’t come as much of a surprise (to me) as it should have due to some speculation I’d read about some days ago. Though it may also be due to the fact that robots going rogue on their own, as much as it provides comic relief and a whole bunch of movie references (I like Terminator Salvation for the record), is a little too obvious which meant something else was going on.
Remember the end tag of season 4 with Radcliffe in his office? I don’t know about you but that didn’t make me trust the guy much, especially since he’d been allowed to play god on people by Hive only a few weeks before.
Will this lead to opening portals to other dimensions? After Maveth and now with Doctor Strange and the Microverse I wouldn’t be surprised if they went this route.
I also liked that they’re portraying Robo-May as not at all conscious of the fact that she is a robot. This mirrors a famous storyline from the comics where Dum Dum Dugan realises he’s been a LMD since he was killed some time in the 60s and there are lots of bodies ready to replace this one when needed. In Marvel’s event Original Sin which was published a couple of years ago, LMDs do play a significant role, especially Fury’s.
Moving on to Vijay and his power I think it’s fair to assume his terrigenesis makes him a special kind of inhuman. It’s assumed his recocooning is due to terrigen crystals in the water but I would say it’s probably more because of the nature of his special ability. What that is, we don’t know yet. What’s certain is he can’t just be a speedster, that would be a waste. Will he turn out to be a character from the comics? I doubt it. The show seems to favour original characters to fan favourites from the comics (with exceptions of course).
And then there’s the question of the Superior who funds the Watchdogs. Is he someone we already know or will they introduce someone new (from the comics even)?
Oh and quick speculation about Jeffrey Mace. I don’t think he’s an inhuman, I think he needs to keep injecting some version of the super soldier formula to keep him either alive or powered or both, hence why he keeps this suitcase close to him at all times. Best to come out as an inhuman than as a failed experiment.
