Thinking about my next phone

My current Android phone is now 3 years old. It's been out of warranty for about a year and it's showing frustrating signs of decline in performance with random reboots and battery draining quickly from 40%. Add to this that +Sony Xperia never upgraded it to Marshmallow and I find myself with something that's in dire need of replacement. I've never rooted this phone but given its hardware issues I doubt it's worth the bother.

So I've been looking at getting something new and this is what I think I need as the main features:
– Android (obviously)
– price below £400 preferably
– decent camera
– 3GB RAM minimum
– 32GB internal storage (expandable)
– reliable battery
– NFC enabled

Some nice to have include
– waterproof
– wireless or magnetic charging

Now because I'm looking at mid range budget phones (I'd love a LG G6 for instance but I'm not spending £650 on a phone) I'll have to make sacrifices. I could perhaps go with another Xperia but frankly I don't really trust the brand at the moment so the two models I'm looking at are the Moto G5 plus and the Oneplus 3t. The Nokia 6 was another one I was thinking about but it's not out yet and the reviews I saw seem to think the camera is a bit meh…

Any other recommendations for models I should look at based on the above?

  1. The OnePlus is what I'd go for if I were in your place. They seem to be of good quality and are easy to install Cy^H^H LineageOS upon.

I went for a Nexus 6P instead and these turn out to have had various hardware issues (which I encountered) and are difficult to repair.

  2. I've always avoided Nexus / Pixel type phones since they've always been stubborn about not putting expandable storage on it.

Although GSM arena seems to think the OnePlus 3T doesn't have expandable storage, and I can't see anything about that on the official site, which is a real bummer

  3. The G6 just got released a few weeks ago though and I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to hold out until my phone gives up the ghost altogether.

Even the Galaxy S7 is still outside my budget and that's a year old already

  4. It's not a removable battery and I'm not about to fiddle with the seal at the back to try and fit a new battery in there. The issues I'm having are not as bad as they were about 14 months ago or so but at least back then I could get Sony to repair it under the warranty terms.

  5. +Jean-Loup Rebours-Smith should you, before the 30th, decide that you're willing to compromise on storage and wish to get a OP3T, I could send you a coupon code I just received for the impressive sum of $10 (or equivalent) off…
That would be about £390 for the 64GB version.
