Jude Law to play "male lead" opposite Brie Larson in 2019's Captain Marvel
While Marvel hasn't confirmed it yet the speculation goes that he will play the role of Dr Walter Lawson, the human secret identity of the original Captain Marvel, ie the Kree hero Mar-Vell.
Previously it was rumoured that Captain Marvel would not be an origin story but in order for her to become Captain Marvel (ie take on the name) she would have to somehow have interacted with Mar-Vell in order to be inspired to take the on the name. In the comics she remains Ms Marvel for a long number of years before ultimately taking on the Captain rank and title. However in this movie I think it's probably fine for her to skip straight to the Captain rank as long as there is a logical reason for her to be named this way (and going with the comic book origin is the most logical and satisfying way to do so).
Is Jude Law suited for the role? It's hard to say, he's been taking a few villainous roles lately but if he can pull off a young Dumbledore, I'm sure he'll be fine as Mar-Vell.
