Review of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 1×22 – The Beginning of the End

Ok I think we can all agree this was the BEST EPISODE EVER. If Season 2 is going to be on the same calibre it’s going to rock our socks off. So here are my favourite moments in no particular order. Careful for SPOILERS as usual.

– Fitz tells Simmons how he feels. That was probably the most emotional scene of the whole episode and I’m really really glad to see the two of them have a more intimate moment. I only hope they won’t play the memory loss / personality change due to brain damage that you tend to see if these types of story lines
– Nick Fury is back for more than just a small cameo. Seriously how awesome was that dialogue? This is the kind of humour I really like about the show which had somewhat been lacking since the Hydra reveal.
– May kicks some ass. Not only right from the start with the berseker staff but her one on one brawl with Ward was epic. And pun intended, they nailed this fight! 😉
– Mike Peterson gets some redemption. With no one to push a button it took little for Mike to turn on Garrett and give him the kicking he deserved. As a side note I loved that scene where you think Garrett will be back stronger than ever only to get obliterated by Coulson. Anyone else had a flashback to the first Man in Black when he exploded into a pile of blue goo?
– Coulson is made Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is tasked to rebuild the organisation from the ground up. I totally called that one, the one reason Fury brought Coulson back was because he knew he was a true believer in the principles behind S.H.I.E.L.D. and if anyone could resurrect the organisation in case of a disaster it would be him. And I love the callback to the Avengers where not only does he get to play with a  Phase 2 gun but Fury implies he considers him one of the Avengers.
– Agent Koenig is back. Well kinda, I’m not sure he’s Eric’s twin brother or if there’s a cloning program going on (I’m an X-Phile just in case you’re wondering where I get that from) but I hope he doesn’t get disposed off quite so easily this time as I’d love to see more Patton Oswalt on the show.
– Raina is connected to Skye’s parents. So it wasn’t just “a story” she heard. I was kinda half-expecting her to turn into a Skrull in that late scene but she didn’t and all we saw of Skye’s parent (hard to tell if it’s a male or a female) was a hand dripping blood. At this stage I’m not sure what it means but it looked a little too small for a frost giant in any rate.
– Last but not least, Coulson finishes the “formula” that we first saw in Eye Spy and which Garrett started to draw earlier in the episode. My theory is that it’s actually a map of the Kree empire which is somehow genetically encoded in the GH-325.

Let’s discuss this folks, what did you like the most about the episode? I was so on the edge of my seat and I’m really glad they resolved some things with humour while keeping things in the dark a little.
