The undying thistle

A year ago, Scotland held its own destiny in her own hands in what was one of the most democratic movements to create a new independent country. It galvanised the country, gave new life to the country's politics and was a triumph for democracy.

Ultimately she decided the time was not yet right to go alone but something started that could have just as easily died off like a flame consuming a small ballot paper. Instead, the fire is spreading, it is becoming Olympian and soon a lion will roar so loud you will know Scotland for the proud nation that she is.

But there are many hurdles to overcome. There are those who would try to not just tame the lion but subjugate it, put it in a cage and pretend it doesn't exist. Scotland doesn't just have one voice now, she has many voices and the number is growing. The momentum is unstoppable, only time will tell when she will break free of the chains that have held her down for over 300 years. Can you hear the steel links popping yet?
