Captain Marvel takes you back to the 90s

There is less than a month to go before Captain Marvel hits cinemas worldwide and the marketing machine for the movie is in full swing. We still don’t have definite answers regarding things like who Jude Law is playing as what’s printed on toys really isn’t a reliable source but here are a few more things to wet your appetite:

First we have a new 30 seconds clip where Nick Fury first encounters Carol Danvers and mistakes her for “a laser tag player”. I wasn’t aware laser tag already existed in the 90s but then again I don’t know everything. One thing it does though is show that Carol Danvers isn’t the super serious character the internet was accusing her of being after that first trailer came out.

Then there’s a very 90’s official website, hosted on the Marvel site which will give you the kind of headache-inducing flashbacks that only a 90’s website could. There’s not much to do there but there’s an interesting “find the Skrull” game which suggests that train we’ve seen in the trailers have more than the one Skrull in it. The rest of the site is a collection of pixelised animated GIFs, blinking text and it even has a (fake since you can’t sign up to it) guestbook at the end. I think my first website more or less looked like this, only this one is all powered by HTML5 and Javascript, not old-fashioned HTML 3 and CSS1…

And finally there are two new promotional posters, which Asad Ayaz, the president of marketing at Disney revealed on Twitter. There have a most artsy feel to it and of of them shows Carol in her full helmeted Mohawk look.
