Listen to the freshly released Captain Marvel Soundtrack

The release day for Captain Marvel is today and with it comes the release of its accompanying movie soundtrack (and it potentially spoilery playlist). I’m always looking forward to the release of a Marvel movie soundtrack, there’s always room for some epic music in my life.

The soundtrack was written by Iranian-American composer Pinar Toprak, who I believe is the first woman to score a Marvel movie. She is well know for her work on the TV show Krypton and the current en-vogue video game Fortnite.

The blend of orchestral and electronic music will sound unfamiliar to Marvel fans, though I must say I was hoping for something a little more immediately recognisable. Toprak recently commented at the Red Carpet premiere that she found the main theme by playing with a minor 7th interval to make the theme stand out from more typical perfect intervals like 4ths or 5ths. However judging from the soundtrack preview below this is not immediately obvious to me, not in the way the Wonder Woman theme is for example. See video below:

You can preview the soundtrack with the Spotify tool below:

You can purchase the soundtrack from most major sources, Hollywoodrecs has a handy landing page for those sources with another preview widget, or you can get it from Amazon. And to find out more about the soundtrack, read the official Marvel announcement.

Edit: And while you’re at it, go check out Marvel’s official movie score playlist for Captain Marvel. It’s a 90’s Grungefest which you would often find under the “Indy” label of … well at least the music stores I would (frequently) go to in the 90s. No Nine-Inch-Nails or The Cure though
