The Kelpies – Falkirk – Scotland

After so many years driving by them on the M9, I finally had the chance to stop by and check out the Kelpies in Falkirk a few days ago. As this was drawing towards the end of the afternoon on a windy but sunny day, I took a chance to catch up on photographing them. Because of their size, they provide many opportunities for some stunning photos and I plan to share the best of them here over the coming days and weeks.

As a refresher, the Kelpies are two giant equine sculptures erected by the Forth and Clyde canal in late 2013. They were accompanied by an extension to the canal in 2014 and now sit at the end of a short series of locks. If you drive up from Edinburgh to Stirling, you really can’t miss them.

In Scottish folklore, Kelpies were mischievous shape-shifting water creatures often resembling horses but capable of taking human form living in the rivers and lochs.
