Guitar Kit Project – Unboxing [video]

I have been wanting to build my own guitar for several years now and while I don’t have the tools or the kind of wood necessary to do it from scratch, the next best thing is to use a guitar kit. I was fortunate enough to be gifted one by my wife a few months ago and I am unboxing its contents in the attached video.

Of all the kits available out there, one crucial point for me was for it to have a spalted maple top. I love woods with interesting patterns and contrast in its grain and spalting is as good as it gets for me. I also wanted it to be a Les Paul shaped guitar. If I’m gonna have a Les Paul, it may as well be one of my own design.

The idea for this video is to kick start a series of mods done to this kit to bring it up to the vision I have for a guitar I can truly call my own. The start will be to shape the head stock and level the frets so as to have a usable neck, then stain and finish the body. Further down the line I can do more sparse videos as and when I apply upgrades to the pickups, the machine heads, the back plates and so on.

If you have experience with building and maintaining guitars I would love to hear your feedback from this unboxing.
