Higher, Further, Faster: Captain Marvel’s Superbowl TV spot and new posters

With the release date of 8 March fast approaching, Marvel Studios is fast ramping up promotion for one of the most anticipated films of the year, and possibly of the whole roster of MCU movies since Iron Man: Captain Marvel. As such here is a 30 second TV spot aired during the Superbowl as well as two new posters released this week.

This short preview includes many scenes we have previously seen in trailers before, except for a bit of banter at the beginning with her old pal Maria ‘Photon’ Rambeau. This made me realise that in all the promotional trailers we’ve seen so far, not once have they shown what Carol Danver’s call name was when she was an air force pilot. Was it ‘Binary’ perhaps? I don’t expect it to be ‘Captain Marvel’ at this point in her life, that would feel too much of a cop-out on how she got the name. But the point of the short trailer is really to hype up just how much of a badass she is and how fun it’s going to be (as if there was any doubt)

The new posters are quite different, the international poster creates a parallel between the Star Force team and the Earth-based characters. Brie Larson’s character also appears twice in that poster, which is very unusual but I would say helps highlight the duality of her character: Kree vs Human, Carol Danvers vs Captain Marvel, it’s all very … binary
