[Video] Hand Carved Guinea Pigs Earrings

When my daughter turned 10 a few months ago she asked to have her ears pierced. As a result I thought it would be a quick and easy project to make her her very first pair.

I had some American cherry left over from the spoon rest project and the stock this produced was the perfect size for something neither too small to carve, nor too big to be used as earrings.

My wife and daughter have a pair of guinea pigs they got a year ago shortly after we moved and to say they are smitten by them would be quite an understatement. Since guinea pigs aren’t of a particularly complex shape (they have very small ears for instance) I thought they would make a perfect subject for carving.

It didn’t take me too long to do the actual carving itself, however getting the proper hardware so they work as something nice to wear was a bit more of a challenge. Still after some hunting on e-bay I found something perfectly suitable and now have enough hardware to make another 49 pairs of earrings … maybe I should start an etsy store 😉

In any case, not only does my daughter loves the earrings, my wife also wants a pair for herself so I’ll have to oblige. Plus I’m always happy to practice.

Hope you enjoy the video, it was my first attempt at doing voice over since this was filmed with my go-pro knock-off and most of the footage just has to be sped up.
