Quick Rock/Blues Jam in A minor a.k.a. A minor breakthrough

One thing I don’t do enough is press the record button to document my progress when I sit with my guitar and jam over a backing track. Backing Tracks can be hit and miss depending on what I’m in the mood to play, lately it’s been all about the blues and luckily there are plenty of backing tracks for that around. But tonight I did remember and left my cares and pretenses at the door and just played what I felt like. I wouldn’t go as far as saying this is “the song” but I listen to this and just amaze myself at how far I’ve gone since I started seriously playing some 13 years ago.

This won’t blow your mind in any way, and for some it’s probably no better than elevator music, but to me this is the point where I finally start to channel some inner music. If that’s what it ends up sounding like, then I am ok with it. All I care about is that it’s more than just playing up and down the scale looking for some way to build sentences using random words hoping it’ll mean something. And if I can play that over something I’d never heard before (which admittedly isn’t very complex but that’s beside the point) then perhaps I can go seek other musicians without feeling like a complete wannabe.

I’d love to know what you think:

  1. The musical genre is not one on which I feel qualified to offer any comment as to taste, but it sounds competently done to me. You ought definitely to find some other musicians at this point – you should easily be able to play with them and it’s very helpful. I note that I used to find rehearsals a lot more fun that the gigs, as it involved playing enjoyable music with other people without being hassled by the audience or venue staff, or talked loudly over.
