Where have you been all this time?

Forgive me internet for I have sinned. It has been seven months since my last blog entry, and surely in this information age this constitutes a mortal sin of sorts. The fact is, the pandemic has had effects I could have never foreseen when back in February 2020 it looks as though Covid was maybe just another case of Sars and wouldn’t affect us the way it did. But 18 months later here we are, still waiting for it to end completely. As a result, I haven’t felt like blogging much. After a while you realise there really isn’t much to talk about since there isn’t much happening in the first place. But things are changing now, and I will try to return to filling these pages with random thoughts for whoever finds these to read.

The first thing to change is the look of this blog. One reason I had been neglecting it is because I didn’t like what it looked like and it didn’t feel like something I wanted to show to the world, even though it is out there. After spending a few hours looking for a new template, I think I finally settled on something that will work. It’s not perfect as there are still a few things I would like to have missing but it looks much better than it did before and that’s the important thing. Of course I could have spent the time to design my own template, I do have an idea what I wanted it to look like after all, but I don’t have the time or mental energy to work it out and I just want something that works so here we are.

Now that the excuses are out of the way, what can you expect to see in this blog going forward? Well I want to sort out my portfolio, both for photography of course but also I want to showcase the music I’m starting to write. With Google+ gone (yes it’s been 3 years or so), there is still about 7 years worth of entries I need to tidy up so they are searchable and feature in the right categories. These entries will have photos attached which will need re-linking or re-uploading and this takes time but eventually this will all be cleaned up. The joys of having a website is that the minute you launch something new, it’s already obsolete. Some things move on far too quickly for any sane person to keep up.

Now my portfolio of photographs is a set of images I have taken over the past 15 years or so, which I currently keep organised in Google Photos but with Google’s recent change of policy, I have been wondering about whether this is the best place to store images. WordPress works but for reasons of storage space and loading times, each image stored here needs to be reduced in size before being published, and of course this takes time but I hope to start doing regular posts with photos from this portfolio, giving more details on the image itself.

I’ve also mentioned music and this is something I have been actively working very hard on. As such I hope to post new songs regularly here, at least until I ran out of space on my free Soundcloud account. I’m going to elaborate on music a bit more in subsequent posts but suffice to say my days as a bedroom musician are hopefully moving to the next level and this is more exciting than pretty much anything that has happened over the past several years.

If you are a regular reader, thank you for sticking around and look forward to more very soon.
