Is this bird the butt of all jokes?

A year ago as we were stuck at home when the pandemic forced us into the first of many lockdowns, I decided to grab some scrap pieces of wood and with the help of my daughter, build a bird house. For a while it seemed it was ever going to be a decoration on the side of my workshop but around March this year a couple of great tits started to take residence and raised a family in the house.

It was great to see wildlife benefiting from something we made and certainly having these guys sounding like they were a bit mad at you from being near their nest when tending the garden was quite amusing.

Sadly they seem to have moved on to other pastures now. Around the middle of June the singing simply stopped and the birds were nowhere to be seen. I’m not en entomologist but I suspect once the chicks learn to fly they move on to other pastures. At least the house will be there for another generation next year.
