Wildlife Images: The European Wolf [1]

I don’t get much chance to take pictures of wildlife. I usually stick to birds, squirrels or insects and I’ve never had the opportunity to go on a Safari. I don’t normally like going to the zoo as it always look like animals have way too little space to be the animals they evolved to be and partly because of that, but also because of crowds, taking pictures at zoos can be challenging, especially to get so decent one.

However there are animal parks where the animals are given much more space to roam freely and thus you get to see them wander in a space a little closer to their habitat, at least for some of them. This is the first of many upcoming posts on the photos I took at the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie up in the Scottish Highlands. It wasn’t the first time I visited there but it certainly was the first time I had a good quality camera with me and despite the changeable weather, I did manage to get a few good pictures of several animals.

Now those who know me will know the wolf is quite special to me, and I was glad to have the opportunity to take pictures of them again. The park has obtained new animals since we were last there 15 years ago and what was the wolf enclosure is now occupied by polar bears. I couldn’t tell if the space given to the wolves to roam was equal in size at the very least but they now have more woodland space to evolve in at least. There will be several posts with wolf photos but for now here’s a first one I’m rather happy with, so please do let me know what you think.
