What they never tell you about technology

I’ve worked in this “industry” for the best part of 15 years now in some form or another, and to this day it still boggles my mind just how hard it is to make something new work. Maybe my experience is different from that of others but in the vast majority of cases when I’ve tried to steer off the well-known path to explore new avenues, some of which are well used and documented by others, I invariably encounter seemingly impossible to climb rock faces which take me nowhere near where I want to go, whether it’s a work project or some other form of endeavour that requires the use of technology.

I know I’m sounding like a grumpy old git here, but someone tell me they’ve never had any issues with new things they tried, be it a new phone, programming language, software, framework, or some other technology-driven tool. I’m going to remain deliberately vague here, but knowing you’ve wasted hours trying to make something work, learn nothing in the process and ended up not producing what you were trying to do to begin with in the epitome of frustration for me.

Also I’m almost out of flower pictures, time to go hunting for more!
